Film series to screen 'If You Build It'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "If You Build It" at 7 p.m. Friday, May 5, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

"If You Build It" follows designer-activists Emily Pilloton and Matthew Miller to rural Bertie County, the poorest in North Carolina, where they work with local high school students to help transform both their community and their lives.

Latin Lumberjacks to present outdoor Cinco de Mayo concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Latin Lumberjacks ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a Cinco de Mayo concert from noon to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 4, in the plaza outside the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

The Latin Lumberjacks is comprised of members of the Sound Recording Technology program within the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music. Directed by Luigi Lazareno, music faculty member, the group will perform a variety of classical and popular songs in salsa style.

Masterwork performance at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ to feature Mendelssohn's 'Elijah'


Chris Turner, assistant professor in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music, will sing the role of Elijah when the combined choirs at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, the Orchestra of the Pines and music faculty soloists perform Felix Mendelssohn's oratorio "Elijah" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, May 5, in W.M. Turner Auditorium.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Department of Biology presents Dr. Michael Hitchcock as this year's speaker during the J.H. Burr Jr. Distinguished Lecture in Biology. Hitchcock will speak at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 28, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center's Twilight Ballroom.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Nurses across the state now have access to an online family nurse practitioner program that will be offered this fall by Stephen F. Austin State University. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board and the Texas Board of Nursing recently approved the Master of Science in Nursing program.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Wind Symphony to perform Boss composition 'Tetelestai'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Symphony will present "Tetelestai" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, May 1, in W.M. Turner Auditorium in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Composer Andrew Boss described his "Tetelestai - A Symphony for Wind Ensemble" as work that "portrays images rather than adhering to a strict narrative," allowing for "a different interpretation of these images from each listener as he or she engages in a unique aural experience as the music unfolds."

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ bands to present annual 'Concert in the Park'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the annual "Concert in the Park" Sunday, April 30, in the wooded area along Vista Drive and in front of the Wright Music Building on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus. The concert begins at 2 p.m. and is free to the public.

Double Bass Quartet to perform at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ


University of Texas Rio Grande Valley's Double Bass Quartet will perform at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29, in the Music Recital Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University. Admission is free.
