ĢƵ aviation sciences students make strong debut at national flying competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Thirteen aviation students from Stephen F. Austin State University competed at the National Intercollegiate Flying Association's SAFECON 2024 competition, held in Waco. This prestigious event included ground and flying challenges against top collegiate flight programs from across the nation. 

ĢƵ hosts nearly 700 elementary students for Wild About Science program


Multiple departments at Stephen F. Austin State University collaborated with the Texas Forestry Association to host the annual Wild About Science event Oct. 18 and 25 for fourth and fifth grade students from regional schools. Faculty and staff from the Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, ĢƵ Gardens and the James I. Perkins College of Education’s Department of Education Studies trained 71 ĢƵ students to conduct three Project Learning Tree activities for the event.

ĢƵ mourns the passing of Dr. William R. Johnson, fourth university president


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University is deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr. William R. Johnson, the university’s fourth president, who passed away Wednesday, Oct. 23. Johnson’s leadership, vision and dedication shaped ĢƵ’s trajectory during his 14 years as president, from 1976 to 1990, making him one of the university’s longest-serving presidents.

Stephen F. Austin State University faculty awarded $1 Million TxDOT grant for conservation research


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Drs. Jessica Glasscock and Cord Eversole, assistant professors of forest wildlife management at Stephen F. Austin State University, have been awarded a grant of over $1 million from the Texas Department of Transportation. This funding will support their research project focused on the conservation and ecology of the alligator snapping turtle, a vital yet at-risk species in East Texas.

ĢƵ Gardens lecture to feature gardens of England


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Nov. 14 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building.

Retired University of Arkansas extension specialist, Dr. Jim Robbins will present “Eleven Gardens in Ten Days: An England Adventure.”

Student vote names new ĢƵ dining hall slated for 2025 opening


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– In a campus-wide vote, Stephen F. Austin State University students have selected Pineywoods Dining as the official name for the new dining facility currently under construction at the corner of Wilson Drive and East College Street, which is set to open next year.

Pineywoods Dining emerged as the top choice, beating out two other contenders: Pine Grove Eatery and Timber Pines.

ĢƵ celebrates Homecoming with calendar full of events


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University has a full calendar of events for Homecoming 2024, including the annual Homecoming concert featuring headliner Josh Abbott Band and opener Heat Above beginning 7 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Intramural Fields.  

The fun is already underway with the ĢƵ Alumni Association’s online Homecoming Auction 2024. Through Oct. 27, participants can bid on items ranging from custom ĢƵ items to exciting travel packages. All proceeds go toward ĢƵ Alumni Association student and alumni programming.

ĢƵ team accepted into prestigious Council on Undergraduate Research advocacy program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Three Stephen F. Austin State University students and their faculty representative recently learned that they are among 63 teams in the nation to gain acceptance into the competitive Scholars Transforming Through Research advocacy program, presented by the . This marks the first time ĢƵ students have participated in the competitive application-based program.

ĢƵ business students advance in Fastenal sales pitch competition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Two students in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business recently advanced to the second round of Fastenal’s National Sales Invitational by making compelling 90-second “elevator pitches” for a fictional company as part of a pre-announced case study.

Brylee Adams, marketing senior from Houston, and Oscar Sanchez, management senior from Jasper, earned $200 each from the Rusche College of Business and a spot in the regional second round competition to be held in late October online.
