Culinary Café to host reception for artist on Oct. 3


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Culinary Café will host an opening reception for artist and alumnus Jason Daniel from 4 to 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, in the Culinary Café.

"We encourage our Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ family and the Nacogdoches community to enjoy a night with us at the Culinary Café," said Dr. Chay Runnels, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's hospitality administration program coordinator and graduate program coordinator.

The Culinary Café features artwork by various artists each semester, and Daniel's collection has been selected for display during fall 2015.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Aria/Concerto Competition winners to perform with Orchestra of the Pines


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Orchestra of the Pines at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the program "Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

The concert will feature winners of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music's 2015 Concerto/Aria Competition, including Ryan Brewer, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ graduate student from North Richland Hills and guest trumpeter, and the Ethereal Quartet, a group of undergraduate saxophone students.

Guest piano recital to feature music of Tchaikovsky, Chopin


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Tali Morgulis, associate professor of piano at the University of Houston's Moores School of Music, will present a guest recital at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The performance is part of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series. The program is subtitled "Autumn Song for Piano A Cappella" and features works by noted composers Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, Sofia Gubaidulina and Frédéric Chopin.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ trombonist Scott to perform eclectic program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present an eclectic program of virtuosic solo trombone music in a recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 28, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

The performance is a feature of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music's Cole Performing Arts Series.

"Each piece is uniquely different," Scott said of the program, "particularly the 'Sequenza V' by Luciano Berio, which is one of the most difficult solos ever composed for trombone."

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's First Friday Film Series to feature 'Samsara'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Samsara" at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

East Texas Historical Association to present Lale Lecture Oct. 8


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The East Texas Historical Association will present the 19th Georgiana and Max S. Lale Lecture at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom at Stephen F. Austin State University.

Dr. Robert (Bob) Krueger of Texas Tech University will be the guest speaker. This event is free and open to the public.

Epidemics exhibit opens at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ with two historical presentations


An examination table and a nurse's uniform are on display Thursday, Oct. 1, through Sunday, Dec. 20, at the "Misery and Remedy: The Rise and Eradication of Epidemic Diseases in East Texas" exhibit at Stephen F.

'My Black Angel, Blues Poems and Portraits' CD to be released


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A CD companion piece to Kim Addonizio's poetry collection "My Black Angel, Blues Poems and Portraits" will be released at an event from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24, at Maklemore's Ale House & Bistro.

"My Black Angel, Blues Poems and Portraits" features woodcuts by artist Charlie D. Jones and is a publication of a fine press book by the LaNana Creek Press and a trade edition by the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ University Press.

McLure's 'Laundry and Bourbon' to be performed in Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Downstage Theatre


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Playwright James McLure's "Laundry and Bourbon" will open the fall semester of Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre's student-directed plays.

Directed by Longview junior Tanner O'Neal, "Laundry and Bourbon" will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 25, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 26, in the Downstage Theatre on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ reports fall 2015 enrollment


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University has recorded increased first-time undergraduate enrollment for the third time in three years to 2,117 students.

First-time undergraduates are students attending college for the first time since graduating from high school. Most first-time undergraduates are freshmen, however some have earned a higher initial classification due to dual credit courses taken while in high school and advanced placement credits.
