NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens will host its annual Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in historic Nacogdoches.
The sale will feature a variety of hard-to-find, "Texas-tough" plants, including Texas natives, heirlooms, tropicals, perennials, shrubs, trees and exclusive Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ introductions. Most of the featured plants are extensively trialed before being offered to the public and are produced by staff members and volunteers of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ's Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture to host community-wide competition
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture in partnership with Nacogdoches Parks and Recreation will host NacogdoTREES, a free, community-wide competition celebrating the natural beauty of the city and campus, through Sunday, Nov. 1.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ graduate student investigates Chinese tallow in East Texas' microbial communities
Past research confirms invasive Chinese tallow tree leaves negatively affect the hatching success of leopard frogs and other amphibious species. Ray Montez, an environmental science graduate student at Stephen F. Austin State University, is researching the differences in chemical compositions and decay rates of these leaves, which may contribute to the changes in East Texas' aquatic microbiological communities, as well as the broader ecosystem.Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ to host Pitcaithley, Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University will welcome former National Park Service chief historian Dr. Dwight T. Pitcaithley to campus for a weeklong visit and public address in October.
The Woodrow Wilson Visiting Fellow will present "Centennial of the National Park Service" at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 5, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom. Admission is free and open to the public.
Daniel, Frields exhibition showing at Cole Art Center
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Along with the opening of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art Faculty Exhibition on Thursday, Sept. 10, in Cole Art Center will be the opening of a show in memory of two former Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ faculty artists.
"In Memory of Two Former Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Art Professors: John Daniel & Gary Frields" opens at 6 p.m. in the Reception Gallery in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House. Also opening that night is a show by Shaun Roberts, assistant professor of painting at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.
Allen, Petti to present collaborative program
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Fred J. Allen, director of bands at Stephen F. Austin State University, and Ron Petti, director of accompanying, will present a recital of music for piano, flute and clarinet at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 15, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.
The performance is part of the Cole Performing Arts Series of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ School of Music. Featured pieces will be "Arabesque No. 1" by Claude Debussy, "Fantaisie for Flute and Piano" by Gabriel Fauré and "Sonatina for Clarinet and Piano" by Malcolm Arnold.
Bassist Rusev to perform at Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Ilko Rusev, principal bassist of the Philharmonic Orchestra of Medellin and professor at the University of Antioquia in Medellin, Colombia, will perform a recital at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
The program will include virtuosic compositions by the romantic composer Giovanni Bottesini and will feature the beloved "Arpeggione" sonata by Franz Schubert.
The performance is part of the Cole Performing Arts Series of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ School of Music.
Center student attending Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ on art scholarship
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Friends of the Visual Arts have announced that Julie McSwain, who graduated from Center High School this past May, is this year's recipient of the East Texas Regional High School Art Scholarship.
The Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Friends of the Visual Arts Board provides an annual scholarship to one deserving high school senior from East Texas who plans to enroll in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ School of Art to help them further their educational and professional goals in the field of art. McSwain is currently attending Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ.
University Series to open new season with Sonali Skandan dance group
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The College of Fine Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University continues its tradition of bringing professional artists to East Texas, opening the 2015-2016 University Series with Sonali Skandan and Company at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 17, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in the Ina Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St. in Nacogdoches.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓƵ Gardens' horticulturists Dawn Stover and Greg Grant will present "A Plant Preview of the Upcoming Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale." Their combined program will provide important information and images of the various special, popular and unusual plants available at the sale.
