NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of "Tomato Republic" at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
In this hour-long film, documentarians Jenna Jackson, Anthony Jackson and Whitney Graham Carter delve into the thoughts and feelings of rural East Texas residents during a heated mayoral race in Jacksonville, Texas, home of the annual Tomato Festival.
Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ art faculty exhibition to showcase variety of mediums
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Members of the School of Art faculty at Stephen F. Austin State University will exhibit their work in a show that opens with a reception at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 10, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
As in the past, this annual exhibition will showcase a variety of mediums, including sculpture, painting, photography, metal work, ceramics and prints, according to John Handley, director of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ art galleries.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ art scholarship to honor Parker
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University has recently established a scholarship in honor of retired Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Art faculty member Gary Parker.
The Gary Parker Art Scholarship will be awarded for the first time in spring 2016.
Exhibition to feature work of UT Tyler art faculty
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - An exhibition of artwork by faculty members of the University of Texas at Tyler School of Art can be viewed Sept. 3 through Oct. 9 in Griffith Gallery on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.
Guest artists include Gary Hatcher, James Pace, Alexis Serio, Dewane Hughes and Merrie Wright. The exhibition will feature a variety of mediums, according to John Handley, director of art galleries at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ.
Auditions set for new Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Choristers
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University' Music Preparatory Division has announced the formation of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Choristers to be directed by Carolyn Andrews.
Formerly the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Children's Choir, the Choristers will be comprised of students in 5th through 8th grades. Rehearsals will be from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Tuesdays beginning Sept. 8 in Room 170 (orchestra room) in the Tom and Peggy Wright Music Building.
Meyer to premiere unique percussion compositions
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Dr. Brad Meyer, director of percussion studies at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present a recital that features unique and newly commissioned compositions for solo and ensemble percussion.
The first event in the 2015-2016 Cole Performing Arts Series of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music, the recital is at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 31, in Cole Concert Hall in the Wright Music Building.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will provide buses to transport Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ alumni and fans from the Tracie D. Pearman Alumni Center in Nacogdoches to three away football games this fall.
The first Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ alumni fan bus will travel to Amon G. Carter Stadium at Texas Christian University in Fort Worth at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept 12. Tickets will be $50 per person and include round-trip transportation.

Art scholarship fundraiser to feature Kinsell's original work
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - It's been two years since Stephen F. Austin State University art professor Robert Kinsell retired. Yet, Kinsell's dedication to the education of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ art students continues to thrive through the sale of donated artwork he gave to the Friends of the Visual Arts before his departure to West Texas.
In the collection of more than 75 pieces, most are Kinsell's work in paintings, prints and photographs, and a few are from other artists.
