Wind Ensemble to present 'Politics and Power'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Wind Ensemble will present a concert titled "Politics and Power" at 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 29, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

"These pieces of music represent the struggle of man versus political power," said Fred J. Allen, director of bands.

Three Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ fine arts projects enhanced by special annuity funding


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Three separate initiatives within the Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts are being made possible with funding provided through the Cole Annuity Fund.

The fund is helping to send three School of Music faculty members to Australia in May to foster an existing exchange program in Tasmania and pursue an opportunity for establishing a similar program in Sydney.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's New Play Development Workshop to present original student works


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The works of five advanced student playwrights in the School of Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, April 29 through May 3, in the Upstage Theatre in the Griffith Fine Arts Building on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's new play festival prepares new works for 'the big time'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Festival of New American Plays at Stephen F. Austin State University continues to feed new works into the mainstream of American theatre. Many of the plays, which were first developed at the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Theatre, have had continued success elsewhere.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Friends of Music will accept reservations through noon Friday, April 26, for Extravaganza 26, the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music's annual gala banquet. The event is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, in the Grand Ballroom of Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ's Baker Pattillo Student Center.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ student filmmakers to screen their original works


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Four original short films by Stephen F. Austin State University student filmmakers will be shown during "An Evening of Short Films" beginning at 6 p.m. Friday, April 26, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Each graduate student will introduce his film, screen it and then take questions from the audience, according to Brad Maule, acting and directing lecturer in the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Theatre and a lecturer in the School of Art's cinematography program.

NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Swingin' Axes and Swingin' Aces jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform an exciting evening of music for the final joint concert of the 2012-13 season beginning at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in Cole Concert Hall on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Wind Symphony's spring concert to pay homage to the sun


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - In celebration of the spring season, the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Wind Symphony will present "Soleil!" A Sun Celebration at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 23, in the Grand Ballroom of the Baker Pattillo Student Center on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

"Throughout history, composers have been writing music in homage to the sun, and modern wind band composers are no different," said David W. Campo, associate director of bands at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ and the Wind Symphony's conductor.

Harp students to perform concert at public library


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - Students in the harp studio of Emily Mitchell, adjunct faculty in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and harp teacher for the Music Preparatory Division, will perform in concert at 6 p.m. Monday, April 22, in the Judy B. McDonald Public Library.
