ĢƵ students study natural resources in the Netherlands


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — With the added perk of exploring a new culture, 12 students from Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture traveled to the Netherlands this summer to learn about the country’s natural resources and horticulture production.

Over the course of the two-week trip, students visited four cities while observing history, art and scenery.

UT System Board of Regents Names Presidential Search Advisory Committee for Stephen F. Austin State University


AUSTIN, TX (August 8, 2023) – The University of Texas (UT) System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin P. Eltife today announced the appointment of search advisory committee members who will advise the regents on selecting the next president of Stephen F. Austin State University (ĢƵ). 

Dean of ĢƵ’s college of education named to national fellowship for educator-preparation leaders


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Judy Abbott, dean of Stephen F. Austin State University’s James I. Perkins College of Education, was named an Impact Academy fellow for the 2023-24 academic year through the national nonprofit organization Deans for Impact.

Impact Academy is a yearlong fellowship that aims to strengthen educator-preparation programs and prepare a diverse group of teachers to meet the needs of all pre-K-12 students. Since its inception in 2016, Impact Academy fellowship has served 139 educator-preparation leaders.

ĢƵ Health and Wellness Hub partners with Nac Safe Place for inaugural suicide awareness walk


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Join Stephen F. Austin State University’s Health and Wellness Hub staff members at Nac Safe Place’s suicide awareness walk, scheduled for 5 p.m. Sept. 23 at Festival Park in downtown Nacogdoches.

Nac Safe Place is a collaboration of community agencies, schools and law enforcement officials dedicated to reducing the stigma associated with suicide in order to increase each person’s ability to seek help and prevent further loss of life.

ĢƵ to host third-annual Giving Day Sept. 18


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Lumberjacks and friends of Stephen F. Austin State University are encouraged to participate in the university’s third-annual Giving Day, which is also happening in conjunction with ĢƵ’s centennial celebration. 

ĢƵ welcomed its inaugural class of students Sept. 18, 1923. To celebrate the university’s 100th anniversary, this year’s campaign goal is $192,300. 

ĢƵ alumna publishes children’s book to teach motorcycle riding, safety basics to young girls


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Katherine Noble meticulously flipped through children’s book after children’s book, poring over each one’s subject matter to gain inspiration for the all-important decision: what her book, the capstone project for her Master of Arts in publishing program at Stephen F. Austin State University, was going to be about.
 
A motorcycle aficionado, Noble’s decision to make a motorcycle-themed children’s book quickly proved inevitable. But what became apparent after hours of research was that most similar children’s books were tailored for boys.

ĢƵ Gardens to host fall plant sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host its annual Fabulous Fall Festival Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7 and 8 at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center in historic Nacogdoches.
 
The sale will feature an array of hard-to-find, “Texas-tough” plants, with an emphasis on native, pollinator-friendly selections, garden favorite perennials and trees, including Japanese maples, magnolias and bald cypress. A list of all available plants will be posted on the ĢƵ Gardens website two weeks before the sale.
 

ĢƵ’s Friday Night Film Series to screen ‘Rainbows End’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of “Rainbows End,” a 2010 documentary made by ĢƵ filmmaking alumni Eric Heuber and Andy Cope. The screening is at 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.
 

ĢƵ’s CARRI and Texas Forest Country Partnership to host economic development forum


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Center for Applied Research and Rural Innovation along with the Texas Forest Country Partnership will host the Nacogdoches Forum on Rural Economic Development from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 1 at the Nacogdoches County Courthouse Annex.
 

ĢƵ students go abroad to explore history and architecture in Greece


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — For nearly two weeks this summer, 16 students from various colleges and areas of study at Stephen F. Austin State University traveled to 14 cities on mainland Greece to study the country’s history, culture, economy and politics, as well as learn how to become a global citizen through travel.
