NACOGDOCHES, Texas — As one of its final duties, the Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents named Dr. Dan Bruton, professor of physics and director of the Ģ����Ƶ Planetarium, the 2023-24 Regents Scholar.

The title of Regents Scholar is the highest honor the university can bestow upon a faculty member. The honor is reserved for faculty members who are exemplary role models to the university community. The title is not an academic rank but an honorary title held for the duration of the recipient’s service to the university. 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — During a special meeting of The University of Texas System’s Board of Regents today, Regents elected to assume management and operational control of Stephen F. Austin State University effective July 28. This action will pave the way for the university to officially affiliate as a member of the UT System Sept. 1.

Kevin Eltife, UT System Board of Regents chair, and James B. Milliken, UT System chancellor, expressed thanks during the meeting to Ģ����Ƶ's board and the Lumberjack community for their role in and support of this union.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — John R. “Bob” Garrett ’75, former Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents chair; Ģ����Ƶ alumnus; and president and CEO of Fair Oil Company of Texas Inc., Broadway South Development, and Fair Management, will give the commencement address during the university’s graduation ceremony Saturday, Aug. 5.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Twenty years after graduating from Stephen F. Austin State University with their Doctor of Education in educational leadership, the class of 2003 returned to campus in June to celebrate their longstanding friendship and meet with current students in the same program.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Theatre and Dance at Stephen F. Austin State University will present a community preview at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 29, of an original play students will perform next month at the prestigious Edinburgh Festival Fringe in Edinburgh, Scotland.
 
The preview performance of “Grandfather Frog’s Tales of the Meadow” will be in Kennedy Auditorium on the Ģ����Ƶ campus. The event is a fundraiser to offset travel costs of the Scotland trip.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Three officers in Stephen F. Austin State University’s police department were recognized during a dual commissioning ceremony July 10 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom for their life-saving response to a distress call. 

Corporal Justin Henderson, Corporal Ian McDonald and Officer Elijah Lenderman responded to a call from the Rave Guardian application by swiftly and professionally providing the caller with life-saving support. The three were presented with a letter of commendation during the event. 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A reception to mark the opening of the exhibition “Alita’s Curse” is planned for 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Friday, July 28, at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University’s art gallery located in downtown Nacogdoches.  
 
The exhibition is designed to share the new fine press book written by Beverly Wright Morris in collaboration with Charles Jones, professor emeritus in the Ģ����Ƶ School of Art. The show runs through Aug. 22.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Erik Ordaz of Nacogdoches has been selected for inclusion in a biennial exhibition showcasing artists in the mid-South. He is among 35 artists selected for the 2023 Irene Rosenzweig Biennial Juried Exhibition, organized by The Arts & Science Center for Southeast Arkansas. His selected work is “N.I.N.J.A.,” ceramic, 16 inches by 16 inches by 16 inches, 2023.
 

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Michara DeLaney-Fields, chief diversity officer at Stephen F. Austin State University, was one of three dozen higher education leaders from across the country chosen to participate in the 2023-24 Executive Leadership Academy.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Ģ����Ƶ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Aug. 10 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.

Denyse Cummins, retired extension horticulture agent from the Louisiana State University AgCenter, will present “All About Bulbs.”

Cummins, who lives in Shreveport, Louisiana, is a lecturer for the Louisiana Farm to School Program. She also has been a commercial cut flower grower, a botanical illustrator and an indigo dyer.
