ĢƵ’s Music Preparatory Division offers scholarships


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music is accepting scholarship applications for its fall and spring classes for the 2019-20 academic year.

The music program features the study of a variety of musical instruments and choral techniques. Upper-level musicians as well as ĢƵ faculty and students teach classes and private lessons.

Annual Watercolor East Texas show opens July 27


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The 35th Watercolor East Texas juried exhibition will open with a reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 27, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Silent bidding underway for ĢƵ art scholarship fundraiser


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Silent bidding for artwork in the annual 12x12 scholarship fundraiser for the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University is now in the final week at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

ĢƵ faculty members recognized for years of service


Several Stephen F. Austin State University faculty members were honored April 30 for their years of service during a faculty recognition luncheon.

Three long-term Stephen F. Austin State University staff members were among those recently honored during a staff recognition ceremony. Nick Stallworth, student center administration, and Carla Chumley, residence life, were each honored for 30 years of service to the university. ĢƵ School of Art to host Graphic Design Portfolio Night


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art will host a Graphic Design Portfolio Night from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11, in Graphic Design Room B121 and front gallery in the art building on Wilson Drive.

The event will feature two ĢƵ art alumni who will discuss their successful careers following graduation.

Guest speakers are Amanda Buckley, principal and CMO for Omniplan in Dallas, and Andrei Bucur, project manager and designer for Dodd Creative Group, also in Dallas.

‘The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee’ closes Friday


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Theatre at Stephen F. Austin State University concludes its SummerStage Festival on Friday. The final performances of “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, July 11, and 2 p.m. Friday, July 12. With music and lyrics by William Finn and book by Rachel Sheinkin, the show features, from left, Nacogdoches senior Alexis “Alli” Beck, McKinney sophomore Carson Cook, Nacogdoches senior Caitlin Edwards, and Wichita Falls sophomore Shelby Miller as sixth graders who make their way through a spelling competition.

ĢƵ SummerStage Festival’s ‘The Reluctant Dragon’ concludes this week


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – “The Reluctant Dragon” will conclude its SummerStage Festival run at 6:30 p.m. Friday, July 12, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. The children’s musical features El Campo sophomore Cameron Wall as Glaston (right) and Nacogdoches senior Alexis Beck and Katy sophomore Erik Brockman as the Dragon. General admission tickets are $8. ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature Twinwood Farms president


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, July 11, in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Jonathan Judice, president of Twinwood Farms in Spring, will present “Tips and Tricks for Planting the Right Tree in the Right Way in the Right Spot.”

Stephen F. Austin State University holds iMAS Academy


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students participating in a recent Stephen F. Austin State University science academy spent the week learning to charge cell phones with fruits and vegetables, assessing the geological stability of houses, solving crimes through computer coding, building rockets and designing vehicle collision safety systems.
