Cole Art Center announces holiday hours


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University's historic downtown gallery, will be open during regular gallery hours for most of the holiday season.

Regular hours are from 12:30 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Students from Stephen F. Austin State University interested in effecting positive economic and social change have an opportunity to make a difference by participating in the on-campus round of the Hult Prize, a global competition with a $1 million prize.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Area middle and high school students spent the fall semester at Stephen F. Austin State University engaging in exploration of science, technology, engineering and math.
 
ĢƵ students and faculty members worked with the students as they completed a series of STEM-related events and activities organized by the STEM Research and Learning Center.

ĢƵ social work students help find grants for local nonprofit


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students from the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Social Work worked to secure grants for C&R Kuttbottle Inc., a nonprofit organization based in Nacogdoches that recycles and repurposes glass, the only East Texas organization to do so.

For their seminar in advanced rural practice course, the students wrote a grant proposal that sought funds for the organization. Dr. Jose Carbajal, assistant professor of social work, instructed students to identify a need within the nonprofit and write a full grant proposal designed to address it.

ĢƵ, community encouraged to participate in 2019 MLK Day of Service


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs encourages the campus and Nacogdoches communities to submit community work projects for the ninth annual MLK Day of Service scheduled for Jan. 21.

The deadline to submit a project is Jan. 4, 2019. Volunteers are needed and can sign up online at sfasu.edu/oma now through Jan. 9. Participants will receive a free lunch and event T-shirt.

ĢƵ to launch new bachelor's degree in data analytics


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University will launch a bachelor's degree in data analytics in the spring of 2019, preparing students to fill jobs that meet the expanding data management needs of business and industry.

According to ĢƵ faculty members, the program is one of only a few that exist throughout the state.

ĢƵ College of Sciences and Mathematics receives donation for coding camp


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Representatives from BPX Energy recently presented a donation to Stephen F. Austin State University’s College of Sciences and Mathematics for the development of the Ladyjacks Who Code camp, launching in the summer of 2019.

Hosted by the college, the STEM Research and Learning Center and the Department of Computer Science, the camp is designed to create engaging experiences for students who have completed sixth or seventh grade, blending both online and “unplugged” experiences.
