ĢƵ’s SummerStage Festival to feature popular favorites


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The school year is winding down, and East Texas residents are making plans for summer vacations and entertainment opportunities for their families. Among those plans should be visiting the Stephen F. Austin State University campus to enjoy the annual SummerStage Festival presented by the ĢƵ School of Theatre.

This year’s festival runs June 27 through July 12 and features the musical comedy “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee” and the beloved children’s story “The Reluctant Dragon.” The festival is sponsored in part by Tipton-Ford-Lincoln.

ĢƵ’s Chapa to perform works by Schubert, Mendelssohn, Sparke


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present a faculty recital featuring Dr. Daniel Chapa, instructor of low brass at ĢƵ, along with collaborative pianist Hyun Ji Oh at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

U.S. Army School of Music Woodwind Quintet to perform at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and its Friends of Music Concert Series will present the U.S. Army School of Music Woodwind Quintet in a recital at 6 p.m. Monday, Jan. 28, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The program contains works arranged for the ĢƵ performance and classic woodwind quintet pieces, according to Lee Goodhew, associate professor of bassoon at ĢƵ.

ĢƵ Faculty Brass Quintet to perform classic jazz, popular music


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Faculty Brass Quintet at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform a concert of classic jazz and popular music when the ensemble presents “Pop Goes the Brass” at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 31, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Shaltis to present solo timpani recital at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and its Friends of Music Concert Series will present William M. Shaltis in a solo timpani recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Shaltis is assistant professor of percussion at the Rudi E. Scheidt School of Music, University of Memphis, and principal timpanist of the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra.

His program at ĢƵ will feature works by Andrew Beall, Jeffrey Peyton, Jarryd Elias and others.

ĢƵ children's series presents 'I Have a Dream'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Children's Performing Arts Series at Stephen F. Austin State University will present two performances of the uplifting "I Have a Dream" on Friday, Feb. 1, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Poverty Simulation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs will host a Poverty Simulation Friday, Feb. 1, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

Two poverty simulations will be held from 9 a.m. to noon and 1 to 4 p.m. OMA's goal for this event is to help participants begin to understand what living in poverty looks and feels like.

Dituri photography exhibition ‘an exploration of spirituality’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The color photography of Frank Dituri will be exhibited Jan. 31 through March 17 in the Reavley Gallery of The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University’s historic downtown art gallery.

ĢƵ music faculty to perform music of American composer Heggie


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Faculty members in the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present a program featuring the music of American composer and pianist Jake Heggie at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

“Here/After: Songs of Lost Voices” will feature Ron Petti, pianist and director of collaborative piano, in collaboration with ĢƵ voice faculty members.

“Jake Heggie is considered to be one of the finest composers of his generation in American art song and opera,” Petti said.
