ĢƵ's Office of Multicultural Affairs to host 'Something To Chew On' series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Multicultural Affairs will host the series "Something to Chew On" from noon to 1:30 p.m. Feb. 26 in the Office of Multicultural Affairs in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Rooms 3.101 and 3.102.

The series helps stimulate open dialogue about current issues among the campus community. This event will focus on "Achieving Unity Within Diversity" and feature discussions on how to unify campus organizations and students.

ĢƵ spatial science program offers new emphasis track


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's spatial science program now offers a third discipline specialization track which allows students to explore the broad range of geospatial applications within the field of liberal and applied arts.

"Spatial technologies and spatial analysis can be applied in many fields as long as there is spatial data," said Dr. I-Kuai Hung, Lacy Hunt professor of geographic information systems and remote sensing for ĢƵ's Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.

ĢƵ history department hosts “A Literate South” author


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Department of History will host Dr. Beth Barton Schweiger, a historian and 1983 ĢƵ alumna, at 7 p.m. Feb. 25 in Dugas Liberal Arts North, Room 142, on the ĢƵ campus.

Creating multiple costume, set designs offers good learning experiences for students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Presenting three different plays in three different styles on one stage in one night takes detailed logistical planning and coordination among designers.

That’s what the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre accomplishes when it presents “Three One-Act Plays by Asian Authors” Feb. 26 through March 2 on the W.M. Turner Auditorium stage.

Pianist Hai Jin's concert canceled


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - A concert by pianist Hai Jin originally scheduled for Friday night, Feb. 22, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus has been canceled due to inclement weather affecting the artist's travel plans.

ĢƵ Gardens to host floral design workshop


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host a floral design workshop to share methods for creating artistic flower arrangements.

The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon March 9 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building, Room 101, at the ĢƵ Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Jordan Cunningham, ĢƵ Gardens greenhouse technician, will explore the principles of floral design including shapes, colors, materials and construction.

ĢƵ Regents appoint screening committee to work with presidential search firm


An eight-member screening committee will assist with the evaluation of presidential candidates for Stephen F. Austin State University. The committee will work with the Dallas-based executive search firm R. William Funk & Associates, hired during a recent meeting of the ĢƵ board.

"The selection of the next president of ĢƵ is the responsibility of the Board of Regents, and in accordance with the Board's Rules and Regulations, we will consider candidates whose names are brought forward by the committee," said Brigettee Henderson, chair of the Board of Regents.

ĢƵ's combined choirs, orchestra to present 'War and Peace' concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The combined choirs and orchestra at Stephen F. Austin State University will present "War and Peace" at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, March 9, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.

Conducted by Dr. Michael Murphy, director of choral activities at ĢƵ, the masterwork concert features Franz Joseph Haydn's "Mass in Time of War" and Ralph Vaughan Williams' "Dona Nobis Pacem."

OMA to host third annual Women's Empowerment Summit


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Recent gender-based social movements, including #MeToo and #TimesUp, will give added weight to the Stephen F. Austin State University Office of Multicultural Affairs upcoming third annual Women's Empowerment Summit, slated for Friday, March 8, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.

Veronica Beavers, OMA director, said that while organizers did not directly address the movements in planning for the event, these and other similar themes will be mentioned in keynote addresses and various breakout sessions.

'Zodiacal Light' recital canceled


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Friends of Music Concert Series presentation of "Zodiacal Light," a recital originally scheduled for Tuesday night, March 5, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus, has been canceled. The performers plan to reschedule at a later date.
