ĢƵ Gardens to host spring plant sale


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's ĢƵ Gardens will host its annual Garden Gala Day Plant Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 6, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St., in historic Nacogdoches.

ĢƵ food, nutrition and dietetics students learn through simulation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Trading a typical classroom for a simulated intensive care unit within Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ of Nursing, students in a medical nutrition therapy course gather around Justin Pelham, their instructor.

A high-fidelity mannequin rests on a hospital bed, with its chest rising up and down simulating a real-life patient. With tubes connected to the mannequin, Pelham, a clinical instructor in the School of Human Sciences, explains what a registered dietitian would need to know and do in this clinical setting.

ĢƵ education students, faculty present at multicultural education conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University students and faculty members recently participated in the 18th Annual Region Five Texas National Association for Multicultural Education Conference at the Janice A. Pattillo Early Childhood Research Center.

This conference focused on social activism and making multicultural education accessible for everyone. Participants engaged in workshop and panel sessions, paper presentations, poster sessions, and an ideas and issues discussion.

Snow Pond Saxophone Quartet to perform at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Snow Pond Saxophone Quartet will perform a guest chamber recital at 6 p.m. Tuesday, March 26, in Cole Concert Hall on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

Cole Art Center to be open during spring break


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House, Stephen F. Austin State University's historic downtown art gallery, will be open regular hours during spring break.

An encore screening of the film "Koo-Hoot Kiwat: The Caddo Grass House" will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 24, in Cole Art Center. In the PBS film, which is directed by Curtis Craven, a Caddo tribal elder and his apprentice return to their ancestral homeland in East Texas to direct the construction of a traditional grass house.

ĢƵ School of Music to present guest flute, piano recital


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present a flute and piano recital when guest artists Meghan Bennett and Maria Lyapkova perform at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 28, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

Bennett is adjunct instructor of flute at Prairie View A&M University, and Lyapkova is a teaching assistant at The University of Texas in Austin.

ĢƵ planetarium to offer new shows


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's planetarium in the Cole STEM Building will premiere two new shows Saturday, March 30, offering exciting, educational experiences for viewers of all ages.

The planetarium has public shows every Saturday with group shows available throughout the week upon reservation.

"Earth, Moon & Sun," geared toward children ages 7 to 13 but open to all ages, will be presented at 3 p.m. Tickets are $3.

ĢƵ interior design students partner with Early Childhood Laboratory on project


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Through a partnership with the Early Childhood Laboratory, Stephen F. Austin State University interior design students worked with 5- and 6-year-olds in prekindergarten and after-school care to design bedrooms.

ĢƵ students were split into two groups, one worked with the prekindergarten students and the other with children in after-school care.

ĢƵ to host Darwin Day program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s fourth annual Darwin Day program has been rescheduled for noon to 1 p.m. Monday, March 25, in the Kennedy Auditorium with featured speaker Dr. Michael Zimmerman presenting “The Confluence of Religion and Science.”

An annual celebration of science, Darwin Day is held on or around evolutionary biologist Charles Darwin’s birthday to commemorate his contributions to the field of biology.

ĢƵ School of Music to present Gilbert, Sullivan’s ‘The Pirates of Penzance’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A funny and entertaining musical tale for the entire family is this year’s opera selection to be presented by the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music.

“The Pirates of Penzance” by W.S. Gilbert and Arthur Sullivan is “good, old-fashioned fun,” says Dr. Debbie Dalton, associate professor of music at ĢƵ and the show’s stage director.
