Held to perform concert that celebrates music written by American composers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Abby Yeakle Held, adjunct professor of oboe at Stephen F. Austin State University, will present the recital program “Celebrating the Music of American Composers” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 12, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

With a goal of presenting a program of only American repertoire, Held selected a "made-in-the-USA" theme featuring the music of William Grant Still, Samuel Barber, George Gershwin, Gian Carlo Menotti, Douglas Moore and Alyssa Morris.

Performing with Held will be ĢƵ collaborative pianist Hyun Ji Oh.

Celebrated curator Michelle White to serve as Texas National juror


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Michelle White, senior curator at the Menil Collection in Houston, will serve as juror for the 25th Texas National, Stephen F. Austin State University’s acclaimed art competition and exhibition, which opens April 13 and runs through June 9 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Game changer: Dr. Jason Reese challenges students with interactive projects


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Sitting on the sidelines has never been an option for Dr. Jason Reese, sports business program coordinator and assistant professor at Stephen F. Austin State University.

After receiving his bachelor’s degree, Reese worked with baseball marketing and sales for the Round Rock Express, the Triple-A Affiliate of the Houston Astros. While working toward his master’s degree, Reese taught a few game-changing classes.

ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature Texas A&M AgriLife Extension horticulturist


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. April 11 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Daniel Cunningham, a horticulturist for Texas A&M AgriLife Research Extension’s Water University program, will present “Eat the Yard: A Guide to Edible Landscape Plants.”

ĢƵ’s Rusche College of Business earns extension of prestigious accreditation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Rusche College of Business has successfully achieved the extension of its business program accreditation by the prestigious AACSB International – The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.
 
Globally, fewer than 5% of business colleges have achieved accreditation by AACSB, which places ĢƵ’s Rusche College of Business in an elite category of business colleges worldwide.
 

Teaching Excellence Award: Dr. Deb Scott


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Creating a positive and safe environment where students can thrive and help their peers succeed is a goal of Dr. Deb Scott, professor of trombone in Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Music.

While Scott is comfortable performing on stage before crowds, it’s inside the classroom that some of her greatest contributions have been made and greatest rewards have been realized.

ĢƵ Regents Professor Dr. DawnElla M. Rust to present lecture


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. DawnElla M. Rust, professor in Stephen F. Austin State University’s Department of Kinesiology and Health Science, will present “Finding Happiness — The Science” at the university’s upcoming Regents Lecture.

Rust, the 2018-19 Regents Professor, will deliver the address at 5:30 p.m. April 23 at the Janice A. Pattillo Early Childhood Research Center, Room 212. This event is free and open to the public. A reception with refreshments will follow.

Lumberjack Marching Band to perform in 2021 Rome New Year’s Day Parade


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Lumberjack Marching Band at Stephen F. Austin State University has accepted an invitation to march in the 2021 New Year’s Day Parade in Rome, Italy. The announcement was made to band students Thursday afternoon by Associate Director of Bands and LMB Director Dr. Tamey Anglley.
