ĢƵ partners with GETCAP to celebrate National Week of the Young Child


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Early Childhood Lab, in partnership with the Greater East Texas Community Action Program's Head Start, invites the community to participate in the Week of the Young Child, which will be observed Monday, April 8, through Friday, April 12, in Nacogdoches County.

As part of the national Week of the Young Child, Nacogdoches will honor young children and all those who make a difference in children's lives.

ĢƵ faculty chamber recital to feature ‘Zodiacal Light’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and its Friends of Music Concert Series will present a rescheduling of the faculty chamber recital “Zodiacal Light” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The recital will feature Christina Guenther, flute; Christopher Ayer, clarinet; Lee Goodhew, bassoon; and Ron Petti, piano. They will perform works by Heitor Villa-Lobos, Roger Zare, Kyle Hovatter and Daniel Dorff.

ĢƵ students earn statewide recognition at college media conference


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Students working for Stephen F. Austin State University’s campus media outlets were recognized with a combined 20 awards for journalistic excellence at the 2019 Texas Intercollegiate Press Association’s annual convention and competition held March 13 through 16 in Corpus Christi.

ĢƵ's Office of Multicultural Affairs to host 'Something To Chew On' series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Multicultural Affairs will host the series "Something to Chew On" from noon to 1:30 p.m. April 8 in the Office of Multicultural Affairs located in the Baker Pattillo Student Center, Rooms 3.101 and 3.102.

The series helps stimulate open dialogue regarding current issues among the campus community. This event will focus on "Generational Trauma: Breaking the Cycle" and feature discussions involving how this trauma relates to how people are today.

Forestry professor receives ĢƵ Bright Spot Award


The sharp thud of an axe hitting wood accompanied by the rhythmic whir of a crosscut saw often emanates from behind the Stephen F. Austin State University Forestry Building in the afternoon. More often than not, passersby also will hear the voice of Dr. Jeremy Stovall, associate professor of forestry and faculty advisor for the ĢƵ timbersports team, the Sylvans, providing advice on how to improve technique with the occasional dose of good-natured ribbing thrown in.  
 

Economics professor makes economics fun through experiential learning


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A few years ago, a group of Stephen F. Austin State University students coined the term “Scanlanomics” in recognition of one of their favorite economics professors, Dr. Mark Scanlan.

Today, Scanlan continues to challenge and encourage students in the Rusche College of Business by making economics fun.

ĢƵ’s James I. Perkins College of Education recognizes Teaching Excellence Award recipients


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s James I. Perkins College of Education recently recognized several faculty members as the college’s Teaching Excellence Award honorees.

Annually, representatives are selected from academic units within each of ĢƵ’s six colleges to receive Teaching Excellence Awards. Then, each college selects one academic unit faculty member to represent his/her college at the university’s annual Teaching Excellence Convocation.

ĢƵ to present student-directed 'Postponing the Heat Death of the Universe'


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present the one-act play "Postponing the Heat Death of the Universe" at 7:30 p.m. Friday, April 5, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, April 6, in the Downstage Theatre on the ĢƵ campus.

ĢƵ Lumberjack Cultural Association, Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Diversity Week


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Lumberjack Cultural Association and Office of Multicultural Affairs will launch the annual Diversity Week with the theme "All Shades" beginning Monday, April 1.

"The OMA and Lumberjack Cultural Association strive to unite the ĢƵ community through this event," said Jalon Berry, assistant director of the OMA. "Throughout the week, we will host educational events that celebrate and promote diversity, multiculturalism, social justice, equality and inclusion."

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Employees from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, an independent bureau of the U.S. Department of the Treasury, recently met with Stephen F. Austin State University Rusche College of Business students to share their insights.
