NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Research and Graduate Studies has announced the recipients of its annual Research and Creative Activity grants. The RCA grant program was created to support ĢƵ faculty members' initial research efforts and to help prepare their research for submission to national grant programs.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Visitors to Stephen F. Austin State University’s swine center won’t find Dr. John Mehaffey behind the desk of a typical professorial office space. More likely than not, they will have to pass through multiple doors following the intermingled sounds of student voices and contented pig grunts to locate him.
Although Mehaffey, associate professor of agriculture in ĢƵ’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, didn’t initially plan to pursue a career in academia, it seems, as the adage goes, he has taken to it like a pig to mud.
Sing-along version of ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ coming to Cole Art Center
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A new version of the award-winning film “Bohemian Rhapsody” is coming to The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House.
A new sing-along edition of the movie will be shown in a free, one-night screening, hosted by the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University, at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, in ĢƵ’s historic downtown art center.
In this version of the movie, lyrics appear on the screen to help moviegoers add their own voices to Queen’s performances of favorite songs like “We Will Rock You” and “Bohemian Rhapsody.”
ĢƵ’s Swingin’ Axes, Aces jazz bands to perform
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Swingin’ Axes and Swingin’ Aces jazz bands at Stephen F. Austin State University will present their final concert of the year at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, April 25, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
Stone Fort Museum to host third pop-up concert featuring ĢƵ’s Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stone Fort Museum on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University will host its third pop-up concert featuring members of the ĢƵ Tuba-Euphonium Ensemble from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, May 10.
The concert will feature traditional Texas tunes performed by the ensemble, which is led by Dr. J.D. Salas, ĢƵ associate professor of music.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Multicultural Affairs will host its inaugural celebration of Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May on the ĢƵ campus.
In partnership with ĢƵ's Asian Culture Club, the OMA welcomes the ĢƵ and Nacogdoches communities to join in activities and traditions that embrace Asian and Pacific Islander cultures.
ĢƵ students to host plant fair on campus
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s horticulture program will host an inaugural plant fair and open house from 5 to 8 p.m. May 3 and 10 a.m. to noon May 4 at the ĢƵ Plantery, located at 1924 Wilson Drive.
The event will feature plants for purchase and educational activities, as well as information regarding how to grow your plants.
“Attendees will experience the floral aromas and vibrant colors of flowers in full bloom at the nursery, greenhouse and garden,” said Stephanie Stevens, a senior mass communication major.
ĢƵ music student Edwards award winner in prestigious national competition
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University music composition major Jesse Edwards has garnered another award in a prestigious national competition for one of his original orchestral scores.
For the third year, The Philadelphia Youth Orchestra (PYO) conducted a nationwide search to name the three winners in the PYO Young Composers Competition. Edwards, a Tyler senior, earned second place for his piece “Saturday Afternoon.” This recent recognition adds to the ever-growing list of accolades Edwards has amassed.
ĢƵ to host J.H. Burr Distinguished Lecture Series
NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Department of Biology will host the 30th annual J.H. Burr Jr. Distinguished Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Friday, April 26, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.
Dr. Beverly Burden, professor of biology at Louisiana State University at Shreveport, will present “Insects of the Home and Garden,” discussing the insects encountered on a daily basis, their unique biology and interesting facts about them.
