‘Cat on a Hot Tin Roof’ cast brings sense of ‘family’ to ĢƵ’s Turner stage


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The student actors ĢƵ Playwright-in-Residence Jack Heifner selected to portray the colorful cast in his production of Tennessee Williams’ “Cat on a Hot Tin Roof” run the gamut in performance experience. Some have acted in many shows at Stephen F. Austin State University, while others are relative newcomers.

“They’ve worked hard to create an ensemble, and this is one of the best casts I’ve had here,” Heifner said. “They have created ‘a family.’ They act like a family on and off the stage.”

ĢƵ Steel Band to perform spring concert


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Steel Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will present its annual spring concert when the student ensemble performs at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, May 8, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The Steel Band, directed by Dr. Ben Tomlinson, percussion adjunct faculty, will perform traditional calypso selections from Trinidad and Tobago as well as additional tunes from around the world.

Among the selections will be "Morning Dance" by Spyro Gyra. The piece takes the band outside of its traditional soca and calypso roots, according to Tomlinson.

ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature Louisiana prairie activist, horticulturist


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. May 9 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

Marc Pastorek, prairie activist and horticulturist from Covington, Louisiana, will present “The Prairie Inspired Garden: Fun with Seed!”
