Prince tribute The Purple Xperience coming to ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Tickets are selling quickly for The Purple Xperience, the most authentic Prince tribute show in the world, coming to Stephen F. Austin State University on Nov. 30 as a special Encore Event to complement the ĢƵ University Series.

College of Fine Arts students, groups to participate in Día de los Muertos Fiesta


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A number of exciting events, including an art auction, a film screening and the popular community altar display, will take place at The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in conjunction with the annual Día de los Muertos Fiesta on Saturday, Nov. 3, in downtown Nacogdoches. Other College of Fine Arts students and organizations at Stephen F. Austin State University will also participate in the fiesta.

Center Stage Brass to perform for Brass Day at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Center Stage Brass ensemble will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University in conjunction with Brass Day at ĢƵ. The recital is also part of the Friends of Music Concert Series.

ĢƵ planetarium to open to the public


Stephen F. Austin State University’s planetarium in the Cole STEM Building will open Nov. 3, taking visitors on immersive journeys of scientific discovery.

Seating 119, the planetarium provides a unique learning space for all ages, offering more than 20 new programs, covering astronomy, biology, chemistry, climate science, Earth science, engineering, geology and space science.

ĢƵ’s University Series presents dynamic new string ensemble Sybarite5


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The commanding performance style of SYBARITE5 string quintet comes to W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus when the group performs in the College of Fine Arts’ University Series.

Known for its startlingly eclectic repertoire – from Piazzolla to Brubeck to Radiohead  – SYBARITE5 comes to ĢƵ Thursday, Oct. 18, for a 7:30 p.m. performance. The group is turning heads throughout the music world, according to Scott Shattuck, associate dean of the College of Fine Arts and director of the series.

Grad School Hub ranks ĢƵ’s online mass communication degree No. 1 in affordability


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Department of Mass Communication at Stephen F. Austin State University received notification from Grad School Hub that its online master’s degree has been ranked the most affordable program in the nation.

‘The Legend of Sleepy Hollow’ coming to ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Children’s Performing Arts Series at Stephen F. Austin State University will open its 2018-19 season on Wednesday, Oct. 17, with two performances of the Virginia Repertory Theatre’s “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.”
Based on the classic story by Washington Irving, this musical version with book, music and lyrics by Paul Deiss takes audiences to Tarry Town to join Ichabod Crane, Brom Bones, the lovely Katrina Van Tassel and, of course, the Headless Horseman, as they live the story made famous by the legend.

ĢƵ’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture hosts community-wide tree contest


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture will host NacogdoTREES, a free community-wide contest celebrating the natural beauty of Nacogdoches, from Oct. 1 through Nov. 16.

“The goal of NacogdoTREES is to highlight the importance of urban and community trees, raise awareness of their ecological benefits, introduce the community to the field of forestry and encourage citizens to spend time outdoors,” said Sarah Fuller, outreach coordinator for ĢƵ’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture.

ĢƵ faculty member re-elected chair of LEAP Texas


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Dr. Larry King, Stephen F. Austin State University professor in the Department of Languages, Cultures and Communication, has been re-elected by the Liberal Education and America’s Promise Texas Board of Directors to serve a second term as chair of the organization.

Hospitality and History: ĢƵ alumnus serves as director of special events at The Fredonia Hotel


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Ryan Russell, a 2012 graduate of Stephen F. Austin State University, is living proof of the phrase “never say never.”

“I remember being in school and saying I absolutely don’t want to work in a hotel and look at me now. I love what I do,” laughed Russell, who has served as director of special events for The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches for more than a year.
