ĢƵ’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture enters partnership with China’s Beihua University



NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture has entered into a partnership with Beihua University, located in China’s Jilin Province, assuring further opportunities for international research and collaboration across the disciplines of environmental science, forestry and spatial science.

Exhibition to showcase art by former ĢƵ students


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The ĢƵ Alumni Invitational Showcase runs from Jan. 30 through May 3 in Griffith Fine Art Gallery on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.

The exhibition features works by former ĢƵ art students and includes paintings, drawings, sculpture, metal work, ceramics and mixed media.

Tony Hawk to serve as guest speaker for ĢƵ’s Nelson Rusche Distinguished Lecture Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — A blue Fiberglass Bahne skateboard started it all for professional skateboarder and successful business owner Tony Hawk, who at 16 years old was widely considered the world’s best skateboarder.

The world skateboarding champion for 12 consecutive years, Hawk continues to skate in demonstrations and exhibitions, making him among the most-recognized athletes in the U.S.

ĢƵ to present piano-strings trio recital


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present a guest-faculty piano and strings trio recital at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 2, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.

The trio includes violinist Minhee Bae, a doctor of musical arts candidate at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music; cellist Jinsun Choi, also a doctor of musical arts candidate at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music; and ĢƵ collaborative pianist Hyun Ji Oh.

ĢƵ to present ‘Caddo Contemporary: Present and Relevant’ art exhibition


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The exhibition “Caddo Contemporary: Present and Relevant” will show Jan. 24 through March 24 in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Featuring ceramics, paintings, beadwork, stonework and drawings, the exhibition is a collaborative presentation of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and Art Galleries and the Caddo Mound Historic Site in Alto, according to John Handley, director of art galleries.

Step Afrika! to perform at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –Internationally acclaimed Step Afrika! will bring its high-energy dance form to Nacogdoches with a University Series performance at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Jan. 25, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

The performance, sponsored by Nacogdoches Medical Center Health Network, is presented by the ĢƵ College of Fine Arts in partnership with the Nacogdoches Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and in cooperation with ĢƵ’s Office of Multicultural Affairs and Greek Life Office.

ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature Texas Gardener magazine owner, publisher


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Jan. 10 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.

John S. “Jay” White will present “Home Garden Trends: Average Gardeners, Mean Vegetables and Distributed Benefits.”

ĢƵ’s East Texas Pine Plantation Research Project continues to augment forest health and productivity


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — After more than three decades, the East Texas Pine Plantation Research Project, initiated by Stephen F. Austin State University’s Arthur Temple College of Forestry and Agriculture, continues to make breakthroughs in the management of East Texas forestlands and the Western Gulf Coast region.

The long-term research program partners with private forest landowners to gather precise scientific data to develop modern tools to optimize the growth, health and management of the region’s forests.

‘Dealt’ documentary features card magician who is blind


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary “Dealt” at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 4, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.
