Perry to present ‘Songs and Dances on Double Bass’
NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music and its Friends of Music Concert Series will present guest artist Brian Perry performing a double bass recital with ĢƵ pianist Hyun Ji Oh at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 4, in the Music Recital Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
One of the newest members of the Dallas Symphony Orchestra, Perry is an adjunct associate professor in the Meadows School of the Arts at Southern Methodist University. He was also a member of the Fort Worth Symphony Orchestra for nine seasons.
ĢƵ Office of Multicultural Affairs to host Brave Space Series on Self-Love
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Office of Multicultural Affairs at Stephen F. Austin State University will host its first Brave Space Series of the spring semester at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 12, in the Baker Pattillo Student Center's Multimedia Room. The discussion will focus on the importance of self-love and how different cultures see it.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 14 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St.
Linda Gay of Arbor Gate Nursery in Tomball will present "Climbers, Twisters and Viners: Using Vertical Space."
ĢƵ's Wind Ensemble to present 'Homecoming Fiesta!'
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Wind Ensemble at Stephen F. Austin State University will present "Homecoming Fiesta!" when the student group performs the music of Richard Strauss, Frank Ticheli, Paul Hart, Richard Wagner and Clifton Williams at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.
Featured guest performers will be the ĢƵ Faculty Brass Quintet, which includes Jake Walburn and Gary Wurtz, trumpets; Charles Gavin, horn; Deb Scott, trombone; and J.D. Salas, tuba.
ĢƵ's Wind Symphony, Symphonic band to present 'Journeys'
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the concert program "Journeys" at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.
The Wind Symphony, directed by Dr. Tamey Anglley, associate director of bands at ĢƵ, and the Symphonic Band, directed by Chris Kaatz, assistant director of bands, will perform works that represent various types of journeys.
The Symphonic Band will open the concert with Charles Carter's "Overture for Winds," followed by Frank Ticheli's "Earth Song."
ĢƵ School of Theatre to host Shakespeare & Company weekend intensive
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will host the internationally renowned Shakespeare & Company from Lenox, Maine, in a weekend intensive study of the language and text of William Shakespeare's works March 8 through 10 on the ĢƵ campus.
ĢƵ Gardens to host Gifts from the Garden workshop
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's ĢƵ Gardens will host the Gifts from the Garden workshop to share methods for creating skin creams, scrubs and tea from natural products.
The event will run from 9 a.m. to noon Feb. 9 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building, Room 101, at the ĢƵ Pineywoods Native Plant Center, 2900 Raguet St.
Jodi and Duke Pittman of Pittman Farms will lead the workshop. Participants will use a variety of oils and waxes, including coconut oil and beeswax, with dried herbs and essential oils to craft their samples.
ĢƵ Regents hire presidential search firm
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University Board of Regents voted unanimously to hire a Dallas-based executive search firm with a history in higher education to lead the search for a new president for ĢƵ.
R. William Funk & Associates has placed presidents for universities including Rutgers, Purdue, Auburn, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Southern Methodist and Clemson.
ĢƵ to host MLK Celebration with guest speaker Bettie Mae Fikes
NACOGDOCHES, Texas - Stephen F. Austin State University's Office of Multicultural Affairs is hosting its annual MLK Celebration to honor the life and legacy of civil rights activist Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at 7 p.m. Feb. 19 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Twilight Ballroom.
"This event is a time to celebrate Black History Month by honoring Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in addition to other black leaders," said Veronica Beavers, OMA director. "We use this time to educate the community and celebrate through performances and networking."
