OMA, Lumberjack Cultural Association to host second annual Something to Chew On series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host the second annual Something to Chew On discussion series this month in partnership with the Lumberjack Cultural Association.

“The purpose of the event is to have open dialogue that focuses on topics of concern to the ĢƵ community,” said Veronica Beavers, OMA director and interim director of student rights and responsibilities. “In addition to local issues, we also highlight issues that affect society worldwide.”

‘The Great Alone’ featured in ĢƵ’s Friday Night Film Series


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Art and the Friends of the Visual Arts will present a free, one-night screening of the documentary “The Great Alone” at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Written and directed by Greg Kohs, “The Great Alone” is an award-winning feature-length documentary film that captures the inspiring comeback story of champion sled dog racer Lance Mackey.

ĢƵ to recognize outstanding alumni at awards banquet


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Stephen F. Austin State University Alumni Association will honor four alumni during its annual awards banquet Sept. 6 at The Fredonia Hotel in Nacogdoches.

The ĢƵ Alumni Awards honor individuals who have made outstanding contributions to their professions and the community and who advance the goals and values of ĢƵ.

The award recipients are Steve Whitbeck, Lumberjack Pride Award; Cole Tomberlain, Outstanding Young Alumnus Award; and Michael Calbert and Dr. John D. Weete, who each will receive the Distinguished Alumni Award.

Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing to visit ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ of Nursing will host a site review for initial accreditation of its Master of Science in Nursing family nurse practitioner program by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Friends of Music Concert Series will present guest artist Dennis Jesse performing a voice recital at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9, in Cole Concert Hall on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus. Jesse will be accompanied by Dr. Ron Petti, professor and director of collaborative piano for the ĢƵ School of Music.

The Second City cast to conduct workshop with ĢƵ comedy-improv student performers


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University College of Fine Arts will bring the newest comedy improv stars to Nacogdoches with a University Series presentation of The Second City at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 6, in W.M. Turner Auditorium, but the performance is only half of the legendary troupe’s visit to ĢƵ. Prior to the show, these professional Chicago-based comedians will share their techniques and insights with students in the ĢƵ School of Theatre who hope to one day earn a living by making people laugh.

ĢƵ School of Art to host faculty exhibition reception


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University will host a reception for its annual faculty exhibition at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 5, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

Each year, the faculty exhibition features a wide variety of artwork in ceramics, sculpture, photography, painting, prints, metal work and mixed media, according to John Handley, director of ĢƵ art galleries. The exhibition runs through Oct. 13.

Children express grief through art; exhibition to open at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The School of Art at Stephen F. Austin State University will open “The Color of Grief ” exhibition Tuesday, Sept. 3, in The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House in downtown Nacogdoches.

“The Color of Grief” features art created by children attending a youth grief camp through Hospice in the Pines.
