ĢƵ Charter School receives American Psychological Association accreditation as internship training site


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University is proud to announce the first-time accreditation of the ĢƵ Charter School as a school psychology doctoral internship training site by the American Psychological Association.

Granted accreditation in July, this internship program expands the school psychology doctoral program’s dedication to train students based on empirically supported best practices, ultimately leading to licensure as school psychologists and licensed psychologists. It also helps to enhance the mental health status of Deep East Texas children.

Office of Multicultural Affairs at ĢƵ to host poverty simulation


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host a poverty simulation during two sessions Oct. 18 in the Baker Pattillo Student Center Grand Ballroom.

Participants will experience some of the daily challenges a family living in poverty may face during a simulated experience of one month.

The session times are 9 a.m. to noon and 12:30 to 3:30 p.m.

School of Theatre to present student-directed ‘These Shining Lives’ scenes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre will present scenes from the student-directed play “These Shining Lives” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, in the Downstage Theatre on the ĢƵ campus.

Cole Art Center teams with public library to screen ‘Seven Samurai’ in Big Read event


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Cole Art Center @ The Old Opera House will partner with the Nacogdoches Public Library and its NEA Big Read Nacogdoches project to present a screening of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 masterpiece, “Seven Samurai.”

A free, one-night screening of the Oscar-nominated film is at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at Cole Art Center. Refreshments will be provided.

Comedian, actor Darren Brand to host ĢƵ’s Office of Multicultural Affairs fourth annual Homecoming Step Show


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs will host the fourth annual Homecoming Step Show, which will feature guest host Darren Brand.

Swingin’ Axes, Aces to perform jazz benefit at LugNutz


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – A fun evening of jazz featuring the Swingin’ Axes, Swingin’ Aces and the Faculty Jazz Combo from Stephen F. Austin State University will be presented from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 11, at LugNutz Bar & Grill.

If weather permits, the jazz bands will perform on the outdoor stage. In inclement weather, the concert will be moved indoors.

The Stray Cats’ Lee Rocker to perform at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stray Cats’ Lee Rocker will bring his high-energy rockabilly show and signature upright bass to Nacogdoches to perform in the University Series at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 24, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus.

ĢƵ Gardens’ Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series to feature ĢƵ Gardens assistant education coordinator


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Oct 10 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center, located at 2900 Raguet St. Jocelyn Moore, assistant education coordinator for ĢƵ Gardens, will present “Changing Young Lives, One Garden Bud at a Time.”

ĢƵ Gardens to Host Outdoor Skills Family Adventure Day


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Join Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens for a free outdoor skills family adventure day from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Oct. 19, at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center located at 2900 Raguet St.

ĢƵ Sylvans to host Lumberjack Games


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s award-winning timbersports team, the Sylvans, invites members of the community to see if they have what it takes to be a lumberjack or lumberjill at the 2019 Lumberjack Games, which will be held during ĢƵ’s Homecoming from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 26.

Dr. Jeremy Stovall, professor of forestry and the Sylvans faculty advisor, said campuswide lumberjack competitions were held in the past, but they have not taken place for at least a decade.
