Proposal deadline for national conference extended to Oct. 31


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The proposal submission deadline for the IMPACT national conference, scheduled for Feb. 22 to 25 at Stephen F. Austin State University, has been extended to Oct. 31. 

For the first time in its 40 years, the largest annual event focused on the civic engagement of college students will take place in Texas at ĢƵ. The conference aims to strengthen student involvement in community service, service learning, community-based research, advocacy and social justice. 

ĢƵ announces Narcan awareness, distribution initiative in conjunction with Red Ribbon Week and Fentanyl Awareness Month


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s emergency management office has announced an initiative aimed at enhancing the safety and well-being of the campus community by distributing Narcan, a potentially life-saving medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, to strategic locations around campus and by offering Narcan training sessions.

The announcement coincides with both Red Ribbon Week and October’s Fentanyl Awareness Month, the latter of which was established earlier this year by Gov. Greg Abbott’s signing of House Bill 3144.

ĢƵ’s Office of Multicultural Affairs accepting service projects for MLK Day of Service


NACOGDOCHES, Texas –– Stephen F. Austin State University’s Office of Multicultural Affairs is preparing for its annual MLK Day of Service, slated for Jan. 15, 2024, and is currently accepting service project requests for the Nacogdoches community.

The MLK Day of Service is an annual event that honors the life and legacy of Martin Luther King Jr. During the event, participants will volunteer their time and assist local agencies with various community service projects that will positively impact the Nacogdoches community.

ĢƵ Gardens’ November speaker to discuss garden design, dynamic landscapes


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Stephen F. Austin State University’s ĢƵ Gardens will host the monthly Theresa and Les Reeves Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Nov. 9 in the Brundrett Conservation Education Building at the Pineywoods Native Plant Center.
 
Megan Proska, senior director of horticulture at the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, will present “Garden Design: Creating a Dynamic Landscape.”
 

ĢƵ Symphony Orchestra to perform Berlioz’s ‘Symphony Fantastique’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Experience an unforgettable Halloween “spooktacular” concert with the  Stephen F. Austin State University Symphony Orchestra when the student ensemble performs Hector Berlioz’s “Symphony Fantastique” at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, in Turner Auditorium on the ĢƵ campus.
                                                                

ĢƵ to present student-directed ‘Moon Over Buffalo’


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Theatre and Dance will present the student-directed full-length play “Moon Over Buffalo” by Ken Ludwig at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, and at 2 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, in the new Black Box Theater in the Griffith Fine Arts Building, ĢƵ campus.
 

ĢƵ Music Preparatory Division students qualify for regional orchestras


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Several students in the Music Preparatory Division of the Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music secured positions on the TMEA  All Region Orchestra during recent competition in Kilgore.
 
“We are delighted to announce that 10 string students earned well-deserved spots in the prestigious Region 4 and Region 21 Orchestra,” said Alba Madrid, director of the Music Preparatory Division.
 

ĢƵ A Cappella Choir to present ‘Sacred and Profane’ concert program


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The A Cappella Choir at Stephen F. Austin State University will present the program “Sacred and Profane” when the student choir performs at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, in Cole Concert Hall, Wright Music Building, on the ĢƵ campus.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Baseball is a game of inches. 

The game often hinges on minute details — a close play at the plate, a pitcher missing his spot in the strike zone by a whisker, or a long ball hit an inch either to the left or right of the foul pole can be the difference in a memorable home run or a mammoth, yet quickly forgotten, foul ball. 12 X 12 Scholarship Fundraiser art party coming soon


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – There’s still time to make silent bids on artwork featured in the annual 12 X 12 Scholarship Fundraiser hosted by the Friends of the Visual Arts at Stephen F. Austin State University and benefiting students in the ĢƵ School of Art.
