New entrepreneurship network to host second meet-up


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — The Piney Woods Entrepreneurship Network will hold its second meet-up for community members, small business owners, entrepreneurs and Stephen F. Austin State University students from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Oct. 24 at Barkeeps, located at 3308 North St. in Nacogdoches.

Hosted by ĢƵ’s Arnold Center for Entrepreneurship in the ĢƵ, this network brings together East Texans in an informal setting to learn from each other and promote new venture creation and growth inside and outside ĢƵ.

ĢƵ’s Homecoming children of the court announced


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Charleston Strong and Liam Tomberlain, both of Longview, will serve as children of the court during Stephen F. Austin State University’s 2023 Homecoming celebrations this weekend.
 

Recent graduate of ĢƵ’s Master of Social Work program earns Student of the Year honors


NACOGDOCHES, Texas — Anna Hartman, a recent graduate of the Master of Social Work program within Stephen F. Austin State University’s School of Social Work, was named the Texas Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers’ Social Work Student of the Year during the association’s conference. 

Cellist Machnik-Jones to lecture, perform for ĢƵ Cello Day


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Stephen F. Austin State University School of Music will present Cello Day on the university campus Sunday, Oct. 29.
 
The day’s activities will feature cellist Angelika Machnik-Jones, founder and director of the Oklahoma Conservatory of Music, presenting a lecture, master class and concert, according to Dr. Evgeni Raychev, ĢƵ music faculty member and cellist.
 

Violist Galaganov to perform Telemann’s Fantasies for Viola da Gamba at ĢƵ


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Dr. Misha Galaganov, professor of viola and chair of strings at Texas Christian University, Fort Worth, will perform the Telemann Fantasies for Viola da Gamba in a concert at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, in the Music Recital Hall, Wright Music Building, on the campus of Stephen F. Austin State University.
 

Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band continue concert series featuring Omar Thomas music


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Wind Symphony and Symphonic Band at Stephen F. Austin State University will perform “The Music of Omar Thomas,” part of a two-concert series featuring the music of lauded composer in residence Omar Thomas, assistant professor of composition and jazz studies at The University of Texas at Austin.
 
The concert is at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Turner Auditorium in Griffith Fine Arts Building. Thomas will complete a residency at ĢƵ that will culminate in a Wind Ensemble concert on Oct. 17. He will not be in attendance at the Oct. 24 concert.

NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Stephen F. Austin State University Professor of Theatre Emeritus Dr. Richard Jones continues to write for professional journals and book-length collections in a range of disciplines.
 

ĢƵ to present ‘Once Upon a Mattress’ musical


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – Another first will take place in the Flex Theatre on the Stephen F. Austin State University campus Nov. 2 through 5 when the musical “Once Upon a Mattress” takes the stage in the new intimate space.
 

ĢƵ’s Chamber Singers ‘Ode to Music’ concert rescheduled


NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The Chamber Singers at Stephen F. Austin State University have rescheduled their concert “Ode to Music” to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24, in Cole Concert Hall on the ĢƵ campus.
