Gavin to showcase American composers in Jan. 30 recital


The music of American composers will be showcased when Charles Gavin, professor of horn at Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ, presents a faculty recital at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, in Cole Concert Hall.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ Wind Ensemble to perform 'Music by American Composers'


NACOGDOCHES, TEXAS - The Stephen F. Austin State University Wind Ensemble will present "Music by American Composers" at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 29, in W.M. Turner Auditorium on the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ campus.

The performance, which is part of the Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ School of Music's Concert Series, features pieces from American composers, reflecting "the great variety that is to be found in American music," said Fred J. Allen, Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ director of bands and of the ensemble.

Among the featured pieces is "Rocky Point Holiday" by Ron Nelson.

Ä¢¹½ÊÓÆµ plans MLK Day of Service


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The Stephen F. Austin State University offices of Student Affairs Programs and Multicultural Affairs will hold the fourth annual MLK Day of Service beginning at 9 a.m. Monday, Jan. 21, in the second-floor movie theater in the Baker Pattillo Student Center.

East Texas Research Center announces contest


NACOGDOCHES, Texas - The East Texas Research Center at Stephen F. Austin State University is sponsoring the third annual "I Found it in the Archives" essay and video contest showcasing archived materials that have positively impacted people's lives.

"We're seeking entrants who have found something special in our collections - records, documents, photos, recordings, a meaningful item or treasure," said ETRC Director Linda Reynolds. "If it has meaning to you, it has meaning to us and is a wonderful basis for your entry."
